WinningKPI - Health Care - KPI for Measuring of Throughput per bed posted in category Health Care Oana Boteanu This indicator is for measuring the number of admissions treated per hospital bed each year. This is calculated by dividing the total number of admissions per year per hospital by the total number of hospital beds.
Both public and private health care hospitals aim to maximise the Throughput per bed, as it reflects a high hospital performance, and it increases profits.

Formula:
Total number of hospital admissions per year/ Total number of beds

KPI Expert Example:
A hospital made a total of 80 000 admissions per year
The total number of beds is of 100

Throughput per bed is:
80 000 /100 = 80 admissions per bed per year

From here the average time per bed admission can also be calculated:
365/ 80 = 4.5 days per admission
This of course can vary as a patient may stay 2 weeks whilst another may stay one day.
