WinningKPI - HR - KPI for Measuring of Absence Rate posted in category HR KPI details: Details:
This indicator is for measuring the average number of days that employees are absent from work, as a % of their total number of workdays.
The aim of the HR department is to minimize as much as possible this rate, as it constitutes a high cost for the company. A high absence rate can be due to many factors, such as low job motivation, poor line management etc. Using this KPI, HR can put in place strategies to lower this rate.
Formula:
(Number of days absent) percentage of [(Average number of employees) x (number of workdays)]
Or
100 x [number of absent days / (Average number of employees x number of workdays)]
*the second formula can turn into a slightly difficult maths calculation; however, an advanced scientific calculator should have all the settings in place to calculate the first formula.
KPI Unit: %
KPI Time Frame: update annually

The HR department is usually in charge of calculating this.
Example:
Total number of absent days in one year: 500 days
Total number of employees: 300
Total number of work days: 260
100 x [number of absent days/ (average number of employees x number of workdays)]
100 x [500/ (300 x 260)] = 100 x (500/78000) = 0.65%
The average absent rate is below 1%.
