This indicator is for measuring the number of local employees as a % of the total workforce. This KPI is part of the sustainability strategy and measures the success of the company’s impact on/benefit to the local community. The expectation is that the company will provide growth to the community around it, in this case through offering jobs.

Formula:

Total number of local employees/ Total number of employees x 100

KPI Unit: %

KPI Timeframe: update annually

KPI Expert % Rate of Local Employment

Let’s take on a simple example to explain this one.

Let’s assume we have Company A located in New York, with a total of 3000 employees.

Now, 1900 of those employees are New Yorkers, whilst the rest are employees from outside New York, such as other states or even from abroad.

The % Rate of Local Employment is:

1900/3000 x 100 = 63.3 %

As stated above, this sustainability factor is very important to show how much the business is giving back to the community.
