Details:

This indicator is for measuring the number of hotel beds occupied as a % of the total available hotel beds. This is a very useful KPI as it takes into consideration double or family rooms and calculates them into the percentage.

However, a high % of beds occupied may not mean high revenue, as some of the beds could be let as part of a complimentary deal.

In order to obtain a more accurate KPI, especially if used to compare against competition, the Paid Occupancy KPI is more suitable.

Formula:

Total number of beds occupied / Total number of hotel beds available x 100

Example:

A hotel with a total of 150 beds calculated % of hotel beds occupied in one night (representative of the usual occupancy level of the hotel)

Total beds occupied – 100

% of beds occupied = 100/150 x 100 = 67%

However, out of the 100 beds occupied, 10 were part of a complimentary deal. Therefore, when calculating the room revenue, only 90 beds should be taken into consideration.

% of Paid beds occupied: 90/150 x 100 = 60%
