Details:
This indicator is for measuring the number of critical bugs found in software products as a % of the total number of bugs found in these products, in a given time period.
This KPI identifies the level of the bugs found in the product, and it may be used to identify why x number of hours are spent on fixing these bugs.
For instance, when this KPI is used with the % of Hours spent on Fixing Bugs KPI, the management team may find out that the latter KPI increased as a result of higher level of critical bugs found in the respective production line.
Critical bugs are likely to take longer to fix than common bugs, and software companies aim to detect and resolve all of these bugs in-house.

Formula:
Total no. of critical bugs found in software products/Total no. of bugs found in software products x100

KPI Time Frame: update monthly or quarterly

Example:
A software development company is measuring the number of critical bugs found in one quarter as a % of all bugs founds in products.

The total number of bugs found in all products developed in measurement period: 70
Total number of critical bugs (bugs that have a higher severity and take longer to fix, higher cause effect on other features etc.): 30

Critical bugs as a % of the total number of bugs:
30/70 x 100 = 43 %

Hence, 43% of all bugs are critical bugs.
This can be a high cost for the company, so the aim would be to minimize the critical bugs % as much as possible.
