There are many ways to measure leadership success, and some of them are depending on the type of business. However, I will give you some indications below on how to measure and trigger leader’s success using HR KPI Indicators.

First of all, the points below are the common measurements for leader’s success:
• Ability to achieve goals (team goals/organizational goals)
• Ability to create and carry out successful strategies (strategy which improved sales by 20% etc.)
• Ability to lead people (ability to set objectives, team strategies, drive teams forward etc.)
Once again, the KPIs to measure this will depend on the business type.
If the business is based on product sales, you may measure:
Leader’s achievement of % increase in Sales Revenue

These are some more common KPIs:
Ratio of achieved goals
Goals achieved/ Total goals set x 100
Or Ratio Goals Achieved: Total goals
Strategies Implement Success Rate
Total of successful strategies/ Total strategies x 100
Here again it will depend on the business type. Measure successful strategies based on weather or not they achieved their target. However, do take into consideration any factors affecting the strategy. For instance, if you did not increase sales due to recession, that may not be the leader’s fault or underperformance.
If you carry out employee surveys you can also get some qualitative data on the employee’s perception of the leaders. It is important that the leaders drive and inspire the workforce. Here you may want to measure employee trust, leader’s communication abilities etc.
