KPI details:KPI Expert Oana Boteanu

This indicator is for measuring the % of spam emails which have not been detected or there have been false positives that the spam emails were detected. This is calculated by dividing the total number of spam emails not detected by the total number of spam emails, in a given time period. This KPI is similar to the % of Spam Email Detected/Stopped KPI, and it is essential to measuring the security performance of an IT system.

The aim is to minimise this spam detection failure, firstly by identifying the factors that cause the failure, and then amending them.

Formula:

Total number of spam emails not detected/ Total number of spam emails x 100

KPI Unit: %

KPI Time Frame: update monthly

KPI Expert Example:

As part of measuring the IT Security performance, a company is measuring the Spam Detection Failure %, over a month period.

The formula is calculated as following:

Total number of spam emails not detected/ Total number of spam emails x 100

Total number of spam emails received: 800

Total number of spam emails not detected: 350

Therefore, the Spam Detection Failure % is:

350/800 x 100 = 43.75 %

This is a very high figure, accounting for almost half of all spam emails received.

The Spam Detection Failure represents an underperformance of the IT Security system and should be amended.

This KPI needs to be minimized.
