This is calculated by dividing the number of goals achieved by the number’s set, in a given time period.
Achieving the goals of the project is essential to the success of the project, and how efficient the project management was.
In order to minimise costs and maximize ROI, it is in a company’s interest to set this KPI as high as 100%. The project managers should put in place strategic plans to ensure this KPI is maximised in every project.

Formula:
Goals Achieved/Goals Set x100

KPI Expert A new product development project – software product development - has a total of 20 goals, detailing step by step each product development stage and its ideal achievement state.
However, during the given time frame (10 weeks) the project team was only able to met 14 of the deadlines due to system failures.
% of Goals Achieved:
14/ 20 x 100 = 70%
If only 70% of the goals were achieved and a full 100% is needed in order to have the product ready to enter the market, the time frame will need to be expanded to cover the extra 30%.
Hence, this is likely to incur a 30% increase in time frame, a potential 30 % increase in costs (whilst material costs may not increase, employee cost will increase by 30%).
