Hazardous operational waste refers to any waste that represents a substantial or potential threat to the public health or the environment.

Statistics show that in 2008, the Manufactory Industry was responsible for 13.1 % of the total waste generation.

Let us take for example (please note numbers are hypothetical, only used for the purpose of this calculation – may differ in real life)

A chemical manufactory accounts for 3 tonnes of operational waste a year.

The hazardous waste accounts for 0.5 tonnes a year.

% Hazardous operational waste:

0.5 tonnes / 3 tonnes x 100 = 16.7 %

Therefore, approximately 17% of the company’s waste is hazardous.

Environmental laws and regulations require businesses to minimize this KPI as much as possible.
