It is calculated by dividing the total number of deadlines met by the total number of delivery deadlines set.
Meeting deadlines is a key indicator for a project's performance. The managers may use this KPI to set a standard of performance and plan in advance contingencies to be able to meet the KPI.
It is in a company’s benefit for this KPI to be as high as possible, even 100%, as a low Delivery Deadlines KPI can incur high costs, low ROI and overall low performance in the company.
E.g. If a shoe manufacturer company secured a contract with a client and the project team didn’t meet all deliveries to produce the shoes, this may jeopardize the contract and the company’s reputation.
Formula:
Number of Delivery Deadlines met/ Total Number of Delivery Deadlines x 100
KPI Units: %
KPI Time Frame: update at the end of project

Deliveries, also known as milestones, are essential to successful project management.
Taking the example from the description above, if the project had 5 deliveries:
a. Produce samples within 1 week
b. Amend product with client description and produce 2nd sample within ½ week
c. Produce all production within 2 ½ weeks
d. Send end product pack to customer
If delivery b is not met on time, as the milestones are interdependent, c and d are also delayed. This way, the project time frame increases, together with the costs.
Hence the % of deliveries met will be:
1/4 x 100 = 25%
