This indicator is for measuring the laboratory test accuracy %. This is calculated by dividing the accuracy level by the maximum desired level of accuracy (100%).

The aim is to maximise this test accuracy to as high as 100%. This is, however, very dependent on test equipment and staff level expertise. A low test accuracy % could result in faulty patient diagnostics, incorrect treatments etc.

A low KPI could be as far as life treating for the patients, and could incur a high cost for the hospital and a high cause-effect on performance.

Therefore, this KPI is very important in Health Care and based on it and other Health Care KPIs, systems and practices can be put in place to maximise it.

Laboratory test accuracy / Desired Test accuracy x 100

The aim of every hospital is to maximise the laboratory test accuracy, as it will result in better diagnosis and eventually better treatments.
The test accuracy is usually monitored by professionals and it is measured against 4 indicators: accuracy, precision, sensitivity and specificity.
Although the overall accuracy is tested based on individual measures, an overarching figure of the laboratory test accuracy could also be estimated.
For instance, the observer may test out of 300 blood testes how many scored positive in all the 4 indicators and how many didn’t.

Let us assume:
100 tests did not scored positive in all indicators
200 tests were fully accurate
200/300 x 100 = 67% test accuracy

This is just one of the many ways of measuring the laboratory test accuracy. Whilst this is an overall measure, much more in depth measurements can be applied.
