KPI details:

This indicator is for measuring the distribution cycle of patches, in other words the average distribution time from being aware of a patch to the implementation of it. This is calculated by dividing the total time from being aware of patches to implementing it, by the total number of patches implemented, in a given time period (e.g. one year).

In order to increase IT security, the security management team will aim to minimise this distribution cycle, mainly by putting in place systems and practices that will facilitate a faster patch implementation (e.g. staff training, high performance security software etc.)

Total time from patches awareness to implementation/ Total number of patches implemented

KPI Time Frame: update annually

A company is measuring the distribution cycle of patches over a 6 months period:

Formula:
Total time from patches awareness to implementation/ Total number of patches implemented

Total number of patches implemented in 6 months: 60
Total Time from awareness to implementation: 6 months

Distribution Cycle of Patches:
6/60 = 0.1 (approximately 3 days)
Therefore, this averaged figure shows that it takes around 3 days from when the patch was noticed to the implementation of it.
