WinningKPI - Banking - KPI for Measuring of Number of ATM Robberies per 1000 ATMs posted in category Banking This indicator is for measuring the average number of ATM robberies per 1000 ATMs. This is calculated by dividing the total number of ATM robberies, by the total number of ATMs the bank owns, and multiplying it by 1000, in a given time period.
A high figure in this KPI could affect the bank's reputation in terms of its security, and also affect the net profit margin.
Therefore, the bank may put in place strategic security measures to minimise the robberies.
Formula: (Total number of ATM robberies/ Total number of ATMs) x 1000
Annually banks lose millions of dollars due to ATM theft. This affects both the banks and the customers, as some of the robberies are targeted at the consumer (e.g. stealing the card and withdrawing money) or at the bank (e.g. depositing false cheques and withdrawing the money during weekends when the banks are closed).
It is part of the bank's security responsibility to ensure that this KPI is as low as possible. Many efforts are made to minimise this and a close measurement of the ATM robberies is ‘a must’ in the banking industry.
Example of using the formula above:
(Total number of ATM robberies/ Total number of ATMs) x 1000
Let us assume that a bank has measured the number of ATM robberies over a 3 months period for all its 1500 ATMs (some banks only have around 400 + ATMs, however, banks like Commonwealth can go up to 4000 ATMs).
Total number of ATM robberies over 3 months: 400
Total number of ATMS: 1500
Average Number of ATM robberies per 1000 ATMs:
(400/1500) x 1000 = 267
Hence, the results show an average of 267 robberies per 1000 ATMs.
That is a 26.7% of 1000 robberies, a very high figure, which possibly costs the bank millions of dollars.
