KPI for Measuring of Schedule Variance (SV) posted in category Project Management

WinningKPI - Project Management - KPI for Measuring of Schedule Variance (SV) posted in category Project Management Oana BoteanuThis indicator is for measuring the schedule variance of the project. It is calculated by resting the planned value from the earned value.
Earned Value (EV) stands for the actual time that was spent on completing the project (or the current stage of the project) and Planned Value (PV) represents the time the project completion (or project stage completion) should have taken to complete.
The SV can have various significations to the project manager, depending on the value. If its number is close to zero, it will resemble an accurate time schedule plan. However, if SV is high, it shows error in the schedule planning, where time needed for project completion was either underestimated or the resources were insufficient.

Formula:
EV-PV= SV

KPI Units: time (days, months)

KPI Time Frame: update during or at the end of project

Here are comments:

KPI Expert A manufacturing company was scheduled to complete a project for a new production line in 10 weeks.
Half way through the project the project manager calculated the SV in order to assess whether the schedule is on time.

Planned Value = 10 weeks x 50 % = 5 weeks.

Although the work scheduled for 5 weeks should have been completed, there was a problem with the machinery and only the work for 4 weeks was completed.

Earned Value = 4 weeks

4-5= -1

A negative SV resembles a below schedule plan. If the manager did not plan contingencies, the material will not be able to be delivered on time.
