WinningKPI - Health Care - KPI for Measuring of % of Patients re-admitted after discharge posted in category Health Care KPI details: This indicator is for measuring the patients re-admitted after discharge as a % of the total patients discharged. This is calculated by dividing the total number of patients re-admitted after discharge by the total number of patients discharged, in a given time period (e.g. one month).
This KPI measures the accuracy in decision making that the doctor takes when discharging the patients. A high % is likely to resemble a bad decision making process and can represent a risk to the health of the patients. It can also represent a high cost for the hospital.

Total number of patients re-admitted after discharge/ Total number of patients discharged x 100

Example:
Over a month period, a doctor has released 10 patients. However, 3 of those returned with further complications due to the discharge, and needed to be re-admitted into the hospital.
The doctor’s decision was faulty and the patients should have not been discharged that early.
% of Patients re-admitted after discharge:
3/10 x 100 = 30 %
Depending on the medical condition of the patients, an early hospital discharge could be so much as fatal for the health of the patients.
This KPI figure should be minimised.
