This indicator is for measuring the % of the systems covered by antivirus and/or antispyware software. This is calculated by dividing the total number of systems covered by antivirus and/or antispyware software by the total number of systems. This KPI shows what % of the systems has maximum security protection, and this figure can be used with other KPIs in order to measure security performance.

For instance, a company that has high % of Downtime due to Security incidents KPI may find that the cause is a low % of systems covered by antivirus/antispyware software.

Hence, the company may choose to budget for the cost of securing all operating systems in order to minimise incidental costs and maximise security performance.

Formula:
Total number of systems covered by antivirus and/or antispyware software / Total number of systems x 100

KPI Unit: %

KPI Time Frame: update monthly

Antivirus/Antispyware software system coverage is crucial for IT Security, especially nowadays when almost everything on internet is loaded with viruses.

Example:
If a company measures its IT Security efforts by identifying what % of its systems are actually covered by antivirus/anti-spyware software, the following calculations are carried out:

Formula:
Total number of systems covered by antivirus and/or antispyware software / Total number of systems x 100

Total number of systems that the company has: 300
Total number of systems covered by antivirus/ antispyware software: 220

% of Systems covered by Antivirus/ Antispyware software

220/300 x 100 = 73 %

This result shows that 73 % are covered by antivirus/antispyware software, whilst the remaining 27 % are left unprotected.
